Weight loss while breastfeeding?

The answer is yes however in order to protect your supply here are a few of my favorite tips.

✔️ Be mindful of when you start dropping your calories. I always recommend waiting until your breastfeeding is well established and supply is not an issue. So around weeks 6-8 at least.

✔️Avoid what we call maximum capacity exercise ( marathon-like training) if supply is of concern or baby's weight is an issue.

✔️Perseverance, there is no such thing as a quick fix. fad diets are not the answer. Focus on whole foods rather than processed.

✔️Find an exercise you enjoy.

✔️Try to keep things slow, you want to be losing no more than 1.5 lbs per week or 6 in a month any more than this has been linked with a drop in milk supply.

✔️Eat at least 1500-1800 calories per day most women should stay at the high end of this range. Some mothers will require much more than this, but studies show that going below this number may put supply at risk.

✔️Remember that breastfeeding alone can consume up to 600 calories per day.
